Flying Spaghetti Monster

Chris Miller recently posted on his blog an argument why Intelligent Design should not be taught in our public school science classes.

I disagree. If our school boards want to teach Intelligent Design as a possible alternative to Evolution, then by all means, go for it. But only if they are willing to give equal time to other ideas, which are just as valid.

For example, the

Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

posits the existence of the Creator who has the whole world in his "noodly appendage." It offers evidence of global warming as a result of the decline of the pirate population, and many other ideas which have as much merit as those proposed by proponets of Intelligent Design.

Intelligent Falling is another idea which needs to be taught alongside (and in opposition to) gravity as the force of attraction between massive bodies.

The education of our children is, after all, of primary importance.

My coworkers and I have been discussing the Flying Spaghetti Monster at work. In fact, we have the picture from the newspaper of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel photoshopped to have Adam reaching out to touch the noodley appendage. My own personal favorite part of the religion is the theory of global warming--the inverse relationship between the temperature of the earth and the number of pirates. So, everyone dress like a pirate and reverse global warming! Incidentally, Monday was International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrrrrgh and avast, matey!
